Iranian-Italian Joint Mission in Khuzistan (Ninth Campaign)

Ninth Campaign (October-November 2016)

The 2016 campaign foresees the exploration of some trenches already opened in 2015 on the site of Chal-e Chendar (Shami Valley). Fieldwork activity will mainly focus on two areas of the site: the terrace, were important religious building stood, and the burial area, where structures suggesting the existence of burial complexes linked to the sanctuary were found.

Iranian-Italian Joint Mission in Khuzistan

Eight Campaign (October 1-November 15 2015)

Works continue in the Hellenistic and Parthian sanctuary at Kal-e Chendar, in the Valley of Shami. Main goals of the campaign are the widening of the trenches on the so-called Stein Terrace, the rescue excavation of the monumental tombs, and the survey of the defence systems of the site.

The Societas Iranologica Europaea organizes at St. Petersburg the Eighth European Conference of Iranian Studies (September 15-19, 2015)

The directors of the Iranian-Italian Joint Mission in Khuzistan, Vito Messina and Jafar Mher Kian, are going to present the last results of their research. Their speech, “The Sanctuary and Cemetery of Shami. Research of the Iranian-Italian Joint Expedition in Khuzestan at Kal-e Chendar”, is scheduled for the day September 16 at 4 PM.
